My Hollywood People: Have you “gone dark?” Does it feel like now isn’t the “right time” for your career and your growth?

A few weeks back I got this email from my coach, Carolyn Freyer-Jones:
“THE HAVE YOU STOPPED QUIZ
– have you stopped thinking about making any money for the rest of this year and are you “getting by”?
– have you gone “dark” in your work, hesitant to take action or launch something?
– are you looking at the news and assuming that [your work] is not a fit in the current landscape – that somehow it’s “wrong” to be focused on your business and your income in the face of everything that’s occurring?
– are you seeing yourself slowly pulling back from seeing growth in your business right now as a possibility?”
Sound familiar?
How many of us are thinking things like this?
“Hollywood is “shut down.”
“Everyone’s being laid off.”
“No one is signing anyone right now.”
“No one is buying new content.“
“It’s not safe to shoot anyway.”
“Auditions are slow.”
It’s so tempting to buy into these kinds of stories right now.
But are they really true?
I have a client in my practice, a woman in her 50s, who had been living in Mississippi and selling skincare for the past handful of years while longing to be a Hollywood producer. Before our work together she was pouring money into a production company across the country that wasn’t earning, giving up on her dreams, struggling with her health, and starting to think it was all over for her. Over the course of our year together she started taking responsibility for her money, her patterns, and her relationships. She had a come-to-Jesus talk with her producing partner. She sought out effective treatment for her illness. She started going on daily walks on which she would speak aloud powerful affirmations that she got from our work and her own reading: “I have more than I need.” “I live a life of abundance in business, finances, romance, and health.” “It is safe to live in this body.” “I am open to receiving massive gifts and blessings.”
Last week, she got her movie, a movie she spent five years trying to sell, greenlit by Paramount with guaranteed distribution, in the middle of a pandemic. She’s financed, she’s on the payroll and she’s selling her home in Mississippi and moving to LA. She told me this week: “I have more hope today than I’ve had in years.”
This just happened. Now.
Another client in my practice is a talented film director, who had spent the last four years focusing on their day-job more than their art. Before we met, they were lIving in the story that their art would never be profitable enough for them to depend on it, so they shouldn’t charge for it: that to be responsible, they needed a 9-5. All this, even though they graduated top of their class at film school, worked on sets for nearly a decade, and were consistently affirmed by those around them.
Three weeks into our work together, this client negotiated a paid directing gig. They stopped working for free. They created money ($1,000!) that wasn’t there before. They also renegotiated their load at their dayjob, so that they would have time to focus on their art. They’ve have already made more money directing this year than they ever have before. This happened now. This year. During a pandemic. During quarantine.
Another client in my practice is a successful working actor who wanted to sign up for a program with me, but was concerned about the cost and timing. Here are his words below:
“I didn’t want to commit without reassurance that I could manage the monetary cost (I needed some sort of “sign”). The next day, my VO agents called to say the producers of an animated Netflix series loved my audition tape and were offering multiple episodes, enough to pay for the workshop. That was the sign I was looking for. The day after I made the financial commitment and actually paid, a flurry of auditions came in…along with a straight offer to be the lead in a feature film!”
This is what’s possible. Now.
Two out of the three artists I just shared about are already enrolled in my 2021 offering for Hollywood Artists: the Six-Month Inspired Hollywood Group. It’s a group for 10 inspired Hollywood artists: producers, directors, writers, or actors, who want to make massive breakthroughs in their Hollywood career in 2021.
Four spots have already been taken–only six remain.
The cohort that’s building is extraordinary. The commitment, the results, the vulnerability, have already been profound, so if you’re tired of going dark on your career, if you’ve stopped and you want to get restarted, if you want to create shifts and transformation in your Hollywood life that you’ve been waiting years to create, let’s talk.
I’m looking for people who are ready to have a different experience, both internally and externally.
If this sounds you, comment below or DM me–now is not the time to go dark on yourself, or your career. We need inspired artists now more than ever.
